Alcolean –A Mix Of Ethanol & Gasoline

Alcohol Fuel (Ethanol)

There has been a quiet revolution in this country for the last 40 years which most Americans haven’t

heard about:  The evolution toward an organic fuel,  which  can be grown right here in the United States,

and which  can support the farming community and lower the country’s imports by billions of dollars per

year.  It’s called “Ethanol.” The Ethanol Movement started in the late 80s when there was a  shortage of

Gasoline and people were lined up at all the Gas

Stations  to buy gasoline.

.

Over the last  4 decades, U.S. ethanol production

capacity  has risen from virtually zero to over 15.8

billion gallons a year. Originally there were three

types of Ethanol fuel:

.

1. E85

E85 is a mixture of 85% Ethanol & 15% Gasoline.  Most people do not even know what it is.

Today Auto manufacturers are building “Flex Fuel” cars that can run on E85 and the

car owners probably do not even know what that means. In Brazil all the cars manufactured

there can burn E85 and I read some ware that it cost them less than $100.00  to modify the

setting to burn it.

.

On 6/15/23 the Wholesale price for E85 was .98 Cheaper than Gasoline,

Today’s National average for Retail E85 is .91 Cheaper than Gasoline (Current Retail Pricing)

Gasoline contains 10% ethanol, which is used as an octane booster.

.

2. Gasohol

Gasohol is a blend of 10% Ethanol and 90% Gasoline.  It is now called “Gasoline.”  Yes, most

Gasoline contains 10% ethanol, which is used as an octane booster.

3. Pure Alcohol Fuel.

This mix is 96% Ethanol and 4% Water.  There is NOWHERE  in the United States to buy this fuel!

There are NO cars in America that run on this fuel, and I can’t find a place to  convert my car to burn

it.  There 201 Ethanol production plants in the United States that produce Ethanol for less than Gasoline!

.

There are other mixes of Ethanol and Gasoline.

Now let’s cover some E85 mixing basics. While it might seem that blending fuels for octane would

be a straight percentage mix like with gasoline, Ethanol Fuel works a little differently.

If we blend 5 gallons of 91 octane gas with 5 gallons of 108 – Ethanol, the result is 10 gallons of

99.5 octane gasoline, (Super Premium).

.

Ethanol’s blending relationship, however, enjoys a little known advantage. Small

blend percentages, like E30, have a much greater impact on octane rating.

In 1925, Henry Ford told The New York Times  that ethyl alcohol is “the fuel of the future” which

“is going to come from fruit like that sumac out by the road, or from apples, weeds, sawdust —

almost anything. There is fuel in every bit of vegetable matter that can be fermented. There’s

enough alcohol in one year’s yield of an acre of potatoes to drive the machinery necessary to

cultivate the fields for a hundred years.

..

Conclusion !

I  never see a sign for E85 at a Gas Station in

Chicago.  I need a map to find one. There are

only  15 E85 Stations in Chicago,  but there

are 424 Gas Stations  in Chicago  That means

only 3.5% of the of them sell E85, but there

are 201 Ethanol production facilities in the US

Maybe after a 195 years it may be time for someone to start marketing the concept ! ! ! ! !
